Why care about cybersecurity?

With the rapid growth of web technologies it can be very difficult to keep up with the latest issues and innovations, especially for people and businesses not focused on the tech sector. This has led to an increasing gap between the sophistication of technology we use and our understanding of how that technology actually works. This gap in understanding is a key vulnerability in any business that has an online presence and is a vulnerability most readily exploited by attackers.

From a business perspective, cyber attacks are responsible for billions of dollars of economic loss annually, resulting from lost web traffic, hacked websites, exploited company data, and lost consumer trust to name a few. At a personal level cyber attacks also cause significant damage that is often more disturbing, such as that caused by identity theft, stolen personal info, or financial scams.

This doesn't mean you have to be an expert to protect yourself, or your business from cyber threats. However a little knowledge can go a long way to covering the commonly exploited vulnerabilities and keeping you or your business safe online.
